This position serves as the Deputy Medical Director of the Interdisciplinary Pain Medicine Center for the center and its area of responsibility, providing services across all practice environments such as In-patient Chronic Pain Service, Out-patient Pain Medicine Clinic, Telemedicine and all initiatives related to readiness, restoration of function, relief of pain and pain research. In this position you will serve as the Pain Medicine specialist and will provide consultation on cases of most unusual or controversial nature. In this position you will also be responsible for management, coordination and supervision of medical staff, development and implementation of contemporary clinical modalities; as well as serve as the Medical Director in their absence.

  • Perform in the Operating Room as a surgeon as needed.

  • Formulate treatment plans for pain management patients.

  • Implement therapeutic interventions for specific conditions.

  • Order, collect and perform a wide variety of laboratory or diagnostic procedures.

  • Perform advanced interventional injection techniques

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

DEGREE: MD or DO from an accredited school in the United States or Canada. Is your degree from a foreign medical school? If yes, then you must have a permanent ECFMG or Fifth Pathway Certificate. Please make sure your application includes your ECFMG or 5th Pathway Certificate number including date awarded.

RESIDENCY/EXPERIENCE: 5 years of residency training or equivalent experience and training in Anesthesiology (e.g., 3 years Anesthesiology residency and 2 year(s) fellowship and/or experience, or any combination totaling 5 years). This includes, but is not limited to experience that demonstrates the following: providing sedation and general anesthesia to neonatal, pediatric, and adult patients for surgical, medical, and diagnostic procedures in and out of the operating room; and providing a high level of care for patients experiencing problems with acute, chronic pain for outpatients with multiple complicated problems.

LICENSING: Active, permanent, full, unrestricted physician license to practice medicine in any state, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Satisfy BUMEDs clinical privileges requirements which, in addition to the above, includes the following:

  • Completion of a residency program in the specialty approved by the American specialty board or AOA, board certification, or board eligible.

  • Current clinical competence (e.g., privileged to independently practice as a Physician within the past 2 years, actively practiced within the past 2 years by having encountered a sufficient number of clinical cases to represent a broad spectrum of the privileges required).

  • No health status contraindications to granting clinical privileges.

  • Board certification is desired but not required.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factor is: Possession of Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification. Failure to possess these factors WILL result in an ineligible rating. Possession of the factors must be verifiable via your resume or support documents.
