The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is seeking a professional, collegial, and highly competent individual to serve in the role of HR Generalist Sr. This position serves the critical role as a Senior Generalist for the HR Operations team and will support several districts within an assigned region. This position will be located within the Norfolk Health District and support the Coastal Region. This HR Generalist Sr. serves as a business partner to assigned districts by providing advice and guidance on a wide range of issues; including recruitment, staffing, performance management, classification/compensation, and employee relations. This position acts both as a tactical practitioner and strategic liaison, working closely and collaboratively with other HR functional leads in the areas of EEO, learning and development, benefits, HR Systems, and transactions. The ideal candidate will service a geographically dispersed and operationally diverse environment and require about 65% of travel. Effective and efficient customer service and communication, both orally and in writing, will be key to the success of this position.

Minimum Qualifications

Demonstrated knowledge in human resources principles, policies and procedures, federal and state laws and regulations, to include recruitment and selection, compensation and classification, and employee relations. Ability to interpret HR policies and offer efficient, effective, fact-based, and defensible recommendations or comprehensive work plans to all levels of agency leaders. Demonstrated ability to conduct job analyses (i.e. position assessments) utilizing defined methodologies and pay factors. The ability to independently manage simultaneous projects with multiple deadlines is essential. Experience in gathering data and conducting trend and gap analyses. Demonstrated experience working with confidential, sensitive and/or politically ambiguous situations. Responsible experience in a variety of professional HR areas in which extensive consultation and customer interaction is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Public Administration, Business Administration, or related field or equivalent work experience/training. Experience working with a geographically dispersed and operationally diverse environment. Demonstrated human resource working experience for the Commonwealth of Virginia.
