Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED including one year of high school level coursework in biology or animal husbandry or one year of experience involving work with animals; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Good oral and written communication, interpersonal and public relations skills required. Some knowledge of different breeds of animals and proper methods of their care and feeding. Customer service and record keeping experience preferred. Must possess or be eligible to obtain a Virginia driver's license. *Good driving record required. Must not reflect a total of more than six demerit points within the past twelve months or a DUI conviction in the past four years. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check (background investigation may include a polygraph examination); and education/degree verification required. This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services" (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent criminal background check.*

Duties:

Assist with the care and feeding of the animals and in the operation and cleaning of the animal shelter; maintain records of animals; provide information on animal control, animal care and shelter policies. Order food and maintain records of other supplies needed; clean/service vehicles; assist with reports and filing; assist the public with claiming animals or inquiries as to the adoption of pets. Assist with the euthanizing of diseased, injured and unclaimed animals. Perform other work as required.

Shift:

8 hours/day; hours and days vary to include weekends, holidays and emergency call outs
