POSITION OVERVIEW:Bloomberg BNA, a wholly owned subsidiary of Bloomberg, and a leading source of legal, regulatory, and business information for professionals, seeks a Vice President and Group Publisher to manage assigned publication unit(s), including editorial quality, operational efficiency, product development, and overall staff management and development.
RESPONSIBILITIES:Implement strategy and business plans for the division; collaborate with Market Managers to define and achieve market team targets; lead and direct strategy development and communicate defined strategy; work with Managing Editors to develop and implement business strategies, plans and goals for the division and its publications; determine opportunities and threats; develop, communicate, and implement responses to opportunities and threats within strategic and budgetary constraints; oversee and monitor implementation of action plans to achieve target revenue, profit, and growth; communicate and enforce standards of quality and style; monitor quality of division content through regular review and markup of issues; provide feedback and recognition to editorial staffs on content, writing, style, mechanics, and adherence to BNA standards; assure operational efficiency and budgetary compliance; ensure that the division works within strategic and budgetary constraints to meet unit goals and financial targets; review structure, staffing, and operational efficiency and develop and implement plans to improve performance; encourage and support active, creative use of shared and redeployed resources; manage product development within the division; act as chief product development advocate and facilitator; encourage flow of new product ideas from units; personally develop new product ideas; work with HR to make decisions regarding hires, salary actions, promotions, disciplinary action, and terminations; coach and develop staff through training, academic programs, job rotations, and transfers; and plan for management succession within the division.
REQUIREMENTS:10 years’ experience in an appropriate combination of editorial and business management experience; ability to lead and manage staff, finances, and resources of a large operation effectively within budgetary guidelines; knowledge of division’s target markets and of subject area covered by the division’s publications; knowledge of BNA standards and style; strong writing and editing skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills; and demonstrated project management skills.
