The National Science Foundation is seeking a qualified candidate for an Associate Program Director position in the Operations, Design, and Dynamic Systems (ODDS) Cluster within the Division of Civil, Mechanical and Manufacturing Innovation (CMMI), Directorate for Engineering (ENG).
CMMI supports research in several disciplines spanning mechanical, manufacturing, civil, and industrial engineering, design and systems engineering, and operations research. CMMI programs accept research proposals that fall within the above engineering disciplines, and proposals that encourage and support interdisciplinary projects. Major duties include:
- Program support activities including the administration of proposals and awards, setting up and conducting proposal review panels, recommending proposal actions and documenting recommendations, and communications and correspondence with principal investigators.
- Writing program descriptions and budget justifications.
- Service on NSF committees, participation in cross-divisional and cross-directorate activities, and the conduct of outreach activities.
- Support to the CMMI Division Director and Deputy Division Director, including performing data retrieval and analysis, data presentation, and the preparation of summary reports and presentations to support divisional activities.

Requirements of the position include a PhD degree in an appropriate field of engineering plus, after award of the PhD, at least four years of successful research, research administration, and/or managerial experience pertinent to the position. The position requires effective oral and written communication skills, and familiarity with NSF programs and activities is highly desirable. The incumbent is expected to function effectively as a member of crosscutting and interactive teams. The incumbent must also demonstrate a capability to work across government agencies to promote NSF activities and to leverage program funds through interagency collaborations. In addition, the incumbent must demonstrate an ability to organize and administer research program activities and to manage program budgets. Data analysis and presentation skills are also desired.
This position is outside the competitive civil service.
Relocation expenses may be paid, contingent upon availability of funds.
